
Aspen Chef & Business Owner, Mawa McQueen named to the Winter 2023 Cohort of the James Beard Foundation’s Women’s Leadership Program
The prestigious James Beard Foundation has announced the members of its Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership (WEL) program. The Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership program is a flagship initiative for the James Beard Foundation. The WEL program aims to support women food industry entrepreneurs and restaurant owners in order to grow their careers and scale their businesses.
The program is operated in conjunction with Cornell University. This year’s program will include sessions on negotiating, design thinking, business and financial models, funding your businesses, and more. In addition to live virtual sessions led by Cornell faculty from across the university, James Beard staff, and other subject matter expert facilitators, WEL students will also be able to further their learn by selecting an elective from Cornell’s External Education program.

Chef Mawa McQueen operates restaurants and businesses in and around Aspen, Colorado. Her Colorado restaurants include her flagship, Mawa’s Kitchen in Aspen and The Crepe Shack in Snowmass. Among her businesses is the exciting new concept, Mawa’s GrainFreeNola, a line of healthy, vegan, and all-natural grain-free granolas.
About The James Beard Foundation’s Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Program
The Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership (WEL) is a flagship program and an advanced educational, training, and networking program for business owners in all areas of the hospitality industry. Each leadership cohort is comprised of 20 participants. Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Program alumnae form a strong and broad community, with regular opportunities to connect with each other and the Foundation.
The ten-week WEL program, created in conjunction with Cornell University, includes sessions on leadership, negotiating, strategy, business and financial models, funding your businesses, measuring success, and more.
