A Middle Eastern Staple, Labneh is yogurt that has been strained of much of it’s liquid to create a soft cheese. The people of Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria have long enjoyed the tart, sour cream like Labneh as a dip or spread in their diet.
Traditionally, Labneh is served as part of a Mezza Spread alongside Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Falafel and Stuffed Grape Leaves accompanied by Pita Bread. However, it can be used as a substitute for Sour Cream or Cream Cheese in your favorite recipes.
Labneh is a healthy alternative to yogurt because it has more protein and fewer calories, fat and sodium. It also has probiotics which as good for digestion.
